WHO WE ARE: Mada-kilonga is an independent organization that works for the betterment of the children of Madagascar. Our vision is a Madagascar in which every child has the opportunity to attend school, and in turn, better their own communities and surrounding areas.
WHAT WE DO:
We contribute to the construction of schools in rural areas, help provide funding for teachers, provide needed school supplies for children such as books, pencils and paper, and related materials.
In many of the rural areas of Madagascar teachers work for donations such as rice and basic food staples, receiving no salaries. This has led to an exodus of many qualified teachers to where they can receive a salary or gainful employment. We help to bring back those teachers to where children are in most need.
Mada-Kilonga has traditionally generated its funding through the sale of jewelry. We believe in fair trade and ensure that all aspects of our jewelry are conflict free, not involving child labor or exploitation in any degree. We pay fair value for our materials, contributing back to the economy of Madagascar.
Currently Mada-Kilonga focuses on the rural areas with the least opportunities, although access to education is severely limited across the entire country except for the economic elite.
With your help we would like to expand our organization to encompass all areas of Madagascar.
